Chenango Valley 2024-2025 Academic Calendar Information

February 26, 2024

 Dear Chenango Valley Community,

I hope that you had a nice weekend. At our February 21, 2024, Board of Education meeting, we adopted our 2024-2025 academic calendar. You can find the calendar here. While many of the days follow similar patterns to previous school years, there are some items to note to help you with planning ahead:

  1. The calendar is developed in collaboration with Broome-Tioga BOCES and the 14 other school districts in our region. To the greatest extent possible, we try to be consistent with student breaks, as our region shares many services through BOCES, such as several special education/alternative education placements, food services, technology services, and other functions that impact day-to-day operations.
  2. Labor Day is on Monday, September 2, 2024, which means the first student school day will be Thursday, September 5.
  3. We reduced half-day early release days for staff professional development from five days in the current year’s calendar to two days in the 2024-2025 calendar.
    1. We will additionally try out a two-hour delay for students on October 25, 2024, and May 30, 2025, to accommodate professional development. While students will start two hours later, these days will remain full workdays for staff, with the delayed time dedicated to professional learning.
      1. We will offer staff and families an opportunity to provide feedback on this model after October 25 and to express whether it should be implemented again in the future.
  4. November 14 and 15, 2024, will be back-to-back half-days for elementary students only for the Family/Teacher Conferences. These dates were chosen based on the staff and community feedback gathered this winter through the Google Forms survey that was shared via email.
  5. The 2024-2025 Winter Break will be two whole weeks, as noted in the calendar.
  6. Next school year, students and ten-month staff will have a day off in observance of the Asian Lunar New Year, which will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. While students and ten-month staff will have off, the district will remain open (similar to the Friday before Presidents’ Day weekend).
In addition, we are still watching the weather to finalize the last student school day for this current school year. Each snow day pushes the last PreK-8 student school day back one day, as we are required to have at least 180 days of instruction. For high school students, Regents Exams are not impacted by snow days, but the last day for PreK-8 students is, and we will look forward to announcing that after Spring Break.

Thank you for the continued support of our staff and students at Chenango Valley. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.

Sincerely,
Dr. Larry Dake
Superintendent of Schools
