What is a Community School?
In partnership with Binghamton University, the Chenango Valley Central School District supports the Community Schools model. A "Community School" is an approach, not a program. Every Community School looks different as it is a needs-based approach.

The idea of a Community School is that the school acts as the "hub" of the community. It brings together educators, families, and community resources/stakeholders. The goal is to make this Community School a place where the community gathers to support not only the education of its students, but where the entire family can be connected to the rest of the community.

The mission of Chenango Valley Community Schools is really an extension of the mission of the district with an added theme of connection and collaboration.
Our Mission: We inspire, engage, empower and connect with all students, families, and community members to achieve their full potential.
The goals of the Community Schools team focus on three main areas:

Family Engagement Subcommittee
This subcommittee has set a goal to provide a welcoming environment for families and invite them to participate as equal partners in decision making.

District Connectivity Subcommittee
This subcommittee has set a goal to connect all building-level activities with purpose and intentionality to build a sense of community districtwide.

Race and Equity Subcommittee
This subcommittee is working to raise awareness and increase understanding around diversity and equity. The team is looking to highlight the different cultures and backgrounds of our students, staff, and community. This work will be focused on increasing educational opportunities and conversations around these important topics.

Who can I contact for more information?
If you have any questions, feedback, or an interest in joining one of the subcommittees, please contact Community Schools Coordinator Jackie DeAngelo at [email protected] or 607-240-3177.
