Chenango Valley Community Schools

As both a place and a set of partnerships, Chenango Valley as a Community School brings together educators, families and community stakeholders to attain collective impact.

During the summer months, the Community Schools team developed a mission and established goals for the 2020-21 school year. The mission of Chenango Valley Community Schools is really an extension of the mission of the district with an added theme of connection and collaboration. We inspire, engage, empower and connect with all students, families and community members to achieve their full potential.

The goals of the Community Schools team will focus on three main areas: district connectivity, achieving race equity and family engagementCommunity Schools team subcommittees focus on these goals to work to support the community during this difficult time.
Family Engagement Subcommittee
This subcommittee set a goal to provide a welcoming environment for families and invite them to participate as equal partners in decision making. This subcommittee will be working on the following:
• establishing a welcome packet for our new families in an effort to help our new families integrate into our community.
• developing a series of community conversations. These will be informal Zooms with and for the community on topics families are interested in.

District Connectivity Subcommittee
This subcommittee set a goal to connect all building-level activities with purpose and intentionality to build a sense of community districtwide. This subcommittee achieved its first success with a districtwide spirit week the week before Halloween! Based on feedback from the community, we will work to have more of these events in the future. In addition, this group is working to:
• build school and community spirit with Warrior Wear Fridays. A Warrior Wear order went out to the community with proceeds benefiting our Warrior Fund.
• create even more district connectivity. There is some work being done between buildings around our “Positivity Project”! Port Dickinson Elementary students recently connected with our middle school students around the concept of curiosity.

Race and Equity Subcommittee
This subcommittee is working to raise awareness and increase understanding around diversity and equity. The team is looking to highlight the different cultures and backgrounds of our students, staff and community. This work will be focused on increasing educational opportunities and conversations around these important topics.
