Message from Principal Ostrander 9-11-2022

Hello High School Families and welcome to a new week!  The first two days went well - it was great to see so many smiling faces! I’m going to send regular emails out to all families with important information for the week. Please see below for important high school information:

Positivity Project (P2) trait of the week: this is the beginning week of P2. Students will be taking the character trait quiz in Warrior Study Hall on Friday to see what their top strength is!

Events: Here are important events at the high school this week. As always, please check out our website or phone app for more information:
  1. Rally in the Valley is this Wednesday at 6:30. All CV families are welcome - stop by the stadium for food and activities! Hope to see you there!
  2. High school pictures are this week on Thursday and Friday during your child’s PE class. You should have received a flyer. I’ve also included information below.
Attendance stats: I am going to give you the percentage of daily attendance for each grade level. I want all families to know how our attendance is tracking, since it is SO important! If your child is struggling with attendance, please reach out to your child’s school counselor for help. Positive daily attendance is the biggest indicator of success in high school!

Here are the stats for the week of 9/8:

9th: 99.63%, 10th: 95.71%, 11th: 94.14%, 12th: 95.45%, Overall: 96.35%

Other important Information/reminders:
  1. Cell Phones: I have stressed to the students that cell phones are not permitted during instruction. Our teachers work very hard to help our students to be successful and I’ve asked students to have them away and earbuds out of ears.  Please stress to your child the importance of this. If you need to get a hold of your child, please call our main office at 607-762-6900 and we will relay the message.
  1. School pictures: If you didn’t receive a photo packet, please use this link to pre-order photos: 22-23 FALL UC - Chenango Valley High School - NY7683 (imagequix.com)
  1. We’ve created additional ways to help your child to feel safe and secure in school. Many students indicated last year that they don’t feel comfortable going to the bathroom, for example, so our school safety monitors and full-time SRO are here to help! They are monitoring halls and other areas to ensure students are where they are supposed to be throughout the day and have already helped immensely! In addition, we have installed vape detectors in our bathrooms to make sure prohibited behavior isn’t occurring.
  1. Mark your calendars - our HS Open House will be on September 29th at 6 p.m. I hope you can join us for this important event!
  1. Please note: The date for Homecoming has changed from our district calendar. It will NOW be held on Oct 7/8.  The football game will be on Oct 7th at 7 p.m. and the HS Homecoming dance will be on Oct 8th from 7-10 p.m. More information will be coming.
I hope your child had a wonderful first couple of days!  As always, please reach out with anything you may need!

Jennifer Ostrander
High School Principal
