Good morning CV High School families,
Welcome to a new week here at the high school! This week’s P2 trait is open-mindedness. This trait is something we work hard to teach students. Everyone is different and has a different situation—keeping that in mind minimizes negative interactions.
Upcoming events - Here are a few high school specific events coming up:
- Rally in the Valley: 10/9/24: Hope to see you there! It’s always a fun night for the whole family!
- End of the 5 week mark: 10/11/24: Progress reports will be sent home the next week.
- Columbus Day: 10/14/24: No school
- French Exchange students arrive to school: 10/15/24: Students from France will arrive to spend a few weeks at CVHS!
- BOE Meeting: 10/16/24 7 p.m.
- Homecoming weekend: 10/18/24-10/19/24: stay tuned for details on Homecoming weekend!
Senior breakfast date change: We will be changing the date of our senior breakfast. It was originally scheduled for Oct 5th-we will communicate a new date as soon as we can.
Chenango Valley Middle School and High School will be conducting a routine evacuation drill on 9/30/24 with a rain date of 10/1/24. This is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that students and staff are well-prepared in the event of an emergency. Please know that students will be informed that this is only a drill and not an actual emergency. Please refer to the update from Dr. Dake that was sent to all families on 9/6/24 for more information. That update can be found here:
Notification Process for Annual Safety Drills (2024-2025 School Year) (stier.org) Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a safe and secure school environment.
We need your help: on average, we have about 20-25 students arriving late to school each day. This means students are missing instruction, this causes a disruption to the classroom when students arrive late, and it causes extra work for our staff. We all have those mornings that causes us to run late, but if your child is struggling to get to school on time, here are a few tips:
1. Sleep schedule: Aim for 8-10 hours of sleep per night and maintain a consistent sleep schedule even on weekends.
2. Evening prep routine: Put out anything they’ll need for school the next day (bookbag, athletic equipment), charge devices overnight so they aren’t on their devices late into the night.
3. Smart alarm strategies: Use apps that require solving puzzles or scanning QR codes to turn off, for heavy sleepers, use vibrating alarms or wearable devices.
4. Student drivers: If your child drives to school, help them to plan for barriers (traffic at the bridge, long lines at Dunkin’ or Batch).
5. Promote self-advocacy: Have your child to communicate with teachers about tardiness issues, encourage them to seek help from their counselor if struggling with time management.
Reach out if you are struggling to have your child to come to school—we can all work together to help them to understand the importance of coming school on time.
Have a fantastic week, and reach out if you need anything!
Thank you,
Jennifer Ostrander
