Chenango Valley Family Update (2-20-2025)

Good afternoon, CVHS families!

I hope this email finds you well.  I just wanted to send along a quick update of high school happenings and upcoming events.
We recently participated in the “Great Kindness Challenge”—our guidance department put together our annual “I am” wall with statements from our students—they shared statements like, “I am kind” or “I am ambitious”.  Lots of great statements from the kids!  In addition, students wrote kindness notes to teachers and staff and notes of encouragement to patients at Mercy House.  Thank you to our guidance staff for facilitating these activities!

Speaking of kindness, we are seeing an uptick of behaviors that can be seen as unkind between students. We’ve had reports of students calling names to each other, spreading rumors, and not treating each other with respect.  This might start out as ‘joking’ that is taken too far, horseplay that escalates, or a resurgence of something that occurred in the past.  We try to work with students to remind them that repeated behaviors can result in harassment or bullying where consequences will occur per our code of conduct.  You can help by reminding your child that everyone is going through something and treating each other with grace and compassion may have a lasting impression! Let’s spread kindness!

I am proud that we are getting more reports of these behaviors, however.  Students are using our anonymous reporting system (Sprigeo) to let us know when they hear comments or see behaviors.  The Sprigeo forms can be found on the DASA page of our website: DASA

Lastly, here are some upcoming HS dates:
  • 2/28: End of the 5-week mark
  • 3/12: Budget workshop #2: 6 p.m.
  • 3/13: Post Prom pasta dinner fundraiser 5-7 p.m.
  • 3/14: No school: Superintendent’s Conference Day
  • 3/19 BOE mtg: 7 p.m.
  • 3/28: ½ day (11:20 dismissal)
  • 3/28-3/30: High School Musical “Anything Goes”
The pasta dinner for the post prom fundraiser is on 3/13 from 5-7.  It will be located at the American Legion on West Service Road. It will be takeout only.  You can get tickets from a senior class member or meals can be purchased at the door.

Please note: The spring music concert that was originally scheduled for May 1st has been rescheduled for May 6th

Our high school musical, “Anything Goes!” is coming up soon!  I hope you will consider coming out to support our drama department—ticket information is forthcoming.

I hope you have a great rest of your week and reach out with anything you may need!

Thank you,
Jennifer Ostrander
High School Principal
