Dear Families,
I am writing to address an important concern regarding student tardiness at our high school. Currently, we are averaging more than 30 students arriving late to school each day. This pattern of late arrivals is significantly impacting student learning and academic progress.
As outlined in our
Respect Commitments, students demonstrate respect for their education through punctual attendance. Regular, on-time attendance is not just a matter of policy—it's fundamental to academic success and the development of responsible habits that will serve our students well beyond their high school years.
In accordance with our district's
Attendance Policy,
unexcused absences, tardiness, and early departures may result in disciplinary consequences as described in the district's Code of Conduct. These consequences can include detention and denial of participation in interscholastic and extracurricular activities.
Effective November 12th, we will be implementing the following consequences for unexcused late arrivals within each marking period:
- 5 unexcused late arrivals = 1 period of detention
- 10 unexcused late arrivals = 2 periods of detention
- 15 unexcused late arrivals = 3 periods of detention
Detention may be served during lunch, study hall, or 10th period, as arranged with school administration.
Please note that our staff will be reaching out to families at regular intervals to discuss attendance patterns and collaborate on appropriate interventions when needed. We believe that through partnership between home and school, we can help our students develop strong attendance habits. We want your child to be successful, as do you. Getting to the root cause of the issue will allow us to implement these interventions to help.
If you have any questions about the attendance policy or need support in ensuring your child's timely arrival to school, please don't hesitate to contact me at 607-762-6900.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a productive learning environment for all students.
Very Sincerely,
Jennifer Ostrander
Principal
