Message from Principal Ostrander 5-21-2023

Good morning, high school families!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! Below are some updates for the high school:

1. 35-week reports will be sent home on Tuesday afternoon. This is the last report before the final grades for the year - feel free to reach out to teachers or your child's school counselor with any questions!
2. Our high school awards night is Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.  You should have received a letter in the mail if your child will be recognized at the ceremony.
3. 11th-grade families: 11th-grade students will be taking the US History Regents exam on June 1. This will be a regular school day for the high school, but students taking the Regents will be excused from classes to take the exam.
4. Regents information: Please see the link below for the Regents exam schedule. **PLEASE NOTE** The sheet gives different start times. CV will begin morning exams at 8:00 a.m. and afternoon exams at 12:00 p.m. Students should arrive at the school 30 minutes before the exams begin.
5. Regents transportation information: If your child needs bus transportation for Regents exams, we ask that they sign up in the main office for each exam. Buses will only pick up high school students who have previously signed up for busing during Regents Week. They can sign up for a.m. pick up, midday pick up or drop off, and end-of-day drop off. If your child stays late to complete an exam (after 2:20), they will ride one of the elementary buses home. Feel free to reach out to our main office to sign your child up for bussing or to check if your child has signed up!
6. Our High School Wellness Day is on Thursday (during the school day)!  We will follow a shortened schedule for classes and wellness sessions will occur in the afternoon. We will start off with Mr. Clark giving a keynote speech in the auditorium for all students and staff. Then students will move on to sessions that they chose to attend for the remainder of the afternoon. Students were able to choose a "pathway" based on their interests. Each pathway has three 30-minute sessions included.  The day will conclude with a school-wide team-building activity. Thank you to our wellness team for organizing a wonderful event!
7. We are really stressing the importance of being in school and in class - there are only 15 instructional days left!  After Memorial Day weekend, the high school will be reviewing for Regents exams and having in-class finals. It's very important that we have students on time and in class for the last few days! Thank you for reviewing the importance of this with your child.
8. Parent/Caregiver Night: "Understanding the risks: Vaping and Marijuana use": May 31 | 6:30 p.m. | We are hosting a parent/caregiver night to better understand the risks of vaping and marijuana use.  We will be featuring our Lourdes student behavior counselor, Jessica Steinborn, and Maria Fabrizi, Broome County's drug-free community coordinator. They will share trends we are seeing with vaping/marijuana use, new forms of marijuana/THC, ways to speak to your child, and prevention strategies. More information can be found here: Event Details (stier.org)  Dangers of Vaping We hope you can join us for this important topic. There is a Zoom option if you are not able to join in person.
9. Senior activities:  Below is a list of senior activities for the remainder of the school year:
  • June 2/3: Prom and Post-Prom (tickets will be on sale soon!)
  • June 5: Senior Scholarship Night: 6:30 p.m.
  • June 9: Cap/Gown distribution, Elementary Walk, yearbook distribution
  • June 12: Senior BBQ - 11 a.m.

I know that is a lot of information. The end of the school year is a busy one! As always, feel free to reach out with any questions you may have. Have a fantastic week!
