Message from Principal Ostrander 2-5-2023

High School Update 2/5/23:

Hello High School Families and welcome to a new week!

Please see below for important high school information:

Positivity Project (P2) trait of the week: The trait for this week is “Cheering on other’s success" - A great trait to practice at any of our athletic events or the musical coming up!

Events:
2/10/23: ½ day (11:20 a.m. dismissal)
2/15/23: Budget workshop - 6:00 p.m. / BOE Meeting - 7:00 p.m.
2/17-2/20: Mid-Winter Recess/Presidents Day
2/23/23: STEAM Night
2/24-2/26: High School Musical Freaky Friday (see below for more information)

Attendance stats: HS Attendance for the week of 1/30/23:
9th: 91%, 10th: 91.8%, 11th: 91.9%, 12th: 86.7% Overall: 90.4%
(I believe the two-hour delay and cold on Friday brought the attendance down for the week.)

I want to congratulate the ninth grade class - they were the winners of the January attendance challenge with 93.8%! The grade level will have a reward for having the highest attendance for the month of January. We will continue the challenge for the month of February!

Important Information/Reminders:
  • Please see the attached message from our HS Physical Education teachers, Ms. Edwards and Mr. Klein.  They will begin the swim unit soon and wanted to give you some helpful information. Swim Letter

  • We continue to see many students arriving late to school. A reminder that being on time to school is part of our Code of Conduct. An occasional tardy is understandable, but some students are repeatedly coming late to school and missing vital instruction. Beginning this week, if a student is chronically tardy to school, they will receive a consequence (example: lunch detention). You can help by reminding your child to be on time to school. Homeroom begins at 7:42 a.m., but the first bell rings at 7:32 a.m. (giving students ten minutes to get breakfast, go to their locker, etc.).  We will also keep you informed of chronic tardiness so you can address at home as well.

  • Are you interested in purchasing a high school yearbook, submitting a senior photo or a photo to be included in the yearbook? If so, head to this site for more information (the link says 2021, but it’s for 2023 yearbook submissions)!  Chenango Valley Yearbook (cvwarriorsyearbook.com)

I hope you have a wonderful week!  Reach out with any questions!

Kindly,
Jennifer Ostrander
High School Principal
