High School Update 10-2-2023

Dear HS Families,

I just wanted to send an update as we are in full swing here at the high school.
  1. A reminder that we have our early dismissal drill on Thursday.  We will be dismissing our MS/HS students at 2:05 on that day.  In addition, we have a ½ day on Friday.  We will dismiss MS/HS students at 11:20 on Friday.  Don’t forget that there is no school on Monday, 10/9!
  1. Other upcoming events:
10/10/23: Blood Drive (HS auditorium 9am-2pm)
10/11/23: PSAT Exam
10/13/23: End of 5 week mark
10/18/23: BOE Meeting: 7 p.m.
10/19/23: National Honor Society Induction: 6 p.m.
10/20/23: HS Picture make up day

  1. I know many families have spoken to Ms. Stephenson, but I wanted to let everyone know that she is our HS Assistant Principal and although she started here at the high school last year and our students know her well, some of our families may not be as familiar with her.  Please feel free to email or call her to discuss your child—she is very involved and is an integral part of our team!

  1. Celebrate!!!  I want to celebrate our attendance for September—we ended up with 94% attendance for the high school!  Last September it was 92%--I know there is a variety of illnesses going around, but if your child is healthy—please send them to school—daily attendance is important!

  1. FYI: the sidewalk on the bridge will be under construction and may not be accessible for walkers for several days.  This could start as early as this week.

  1. A reminder—if your child is sick during the school day, the protocol is that your child go to the nurse for evaluation.  We’ve had some students texting or calling families to come pick them up without going to the nurse.  This creates inaccuracies with our attendance and ensuring who is in our building each day.  If your child texts or calls you, please ask them to visit Mrs. Frost in the nurse’s office and she will call you with her evaluation.  Thank you for your help with this!

I want to continue to thank you for a great start to the school year.  Let’s keep that line of communication open so we can continue to address issues in a timely manner and work together as a team.

Have a great week!
Jennifer Ostrander
High School Principal
