CV High School Update 1-28-2024

Good afternoon, CVHS families,

Tomorrow begins a new marking period and semester!  Grades for marking period 2 are being finalized and report cards will be sent home on Tuesday.

Other reminders:
  • This week’s P2 trait is “Forgiveness”. Our students have done a good job with this trait—when we speak to students about disrespect to a staff member or another student, they are open to apologizing, and students and staff are open to forgiving each other. We’ve seen growth with students not escalating behaviors and finding ways to resolve conflict before it becomes a bigger issue.
  • Our attendance has slipped a bit in recent weeks. We were around my goal of 93%, but for January we averaged about 91%. I know I bring up attendance a lot (some may say too much!) but I can’t stress enough how important it is to come to school and be in class regularly. 12th grade especially has decreased their attendance to about 85% (which is traditionally the trend) but as we start a new semester, this is a nice time to remind everyone that new classes are starting, and we are moving forward with Regents classes. June will be here before we know it!
  • The Junior Dinner Dance will be held this Saturday, February 3, from 6:30-10:30 PM here at the high school.  Our junior class advisor and the class officers have worked hard to make it a wonderful evening for all attending. Tickets are $40 each and are sold during the lunch periods.
  • Yearbook ordering: If you'd like to purchase a HS yearbook online, use the website: www.ybpay.com and use the School code: 12854524. Order now to ensure your child receives a yearbook later in the school year!
  • We are still seeing some issues with cell phone and earbud use during class. As part of our “Respect Doc,” we would like our students to be present and actively engaged in class. Some students are taking phones out during class and not taking earbuds out. Cell phones are extremely distracting and even adults struggle with the self-control to not check phones. We want students to know how to use cell phones appropriately, so please help us by having conversations with your child about how and when to use their phone. Phones and earbuds shouldn’t be out during instruction, and we encourage students to either keep them in the specified location in the classroom (like a pouch on the wall) or in their book bags. Thank you for your help with this.
  • The CV High School Musical is coming up soon! “Shrek the Musical” is coming to the stage March 15-17, 2024. It’ll be fun for the whole family - hope to see you there!
  • Big changes are coming soon to the MS/HS campus!  The 2nd phase of the capital project will begin this summer, and the highlight is that the Family and Consumer Science, Technology, and Art departments will all have new and renovated spaces. We are excited for this next phase!
As always, reach out with any questions or concerns.

Thank you!
