Message Regarding PD Halloween Parade 2022

10/21/2022

Good Morning Port Dickinson Families!

I wanted to send you a message about Port Dickinson Elementary’s upcoming Halloween parade on Monday, October 31. We are excited for our Little Warriors and their families to enjoy this fun event. I will be sending the parade route and a reminder of the schedule next week, but here are some important and timely details to help you prepare.

Parade Start Times
  • AM Pre-K: 11:00 a.m.
  • Full-Day Programs (Full-day Pre-K - 2nd Grade): 2:00 p.m.

Parade Route
  • We plan to have an outdoor parade. However, if needed due to the weather, we will have an indoor parade route ready to go (details to follow next week).
  • A decision on whether the parade will be indoors or outdoors (based on the weather forecast) will be made on Sunday, October 30, and communicated to families through email.

Costumes
  • Costumes must be school appropriate and align with our Code of Conduct.
  • Nothing violent, threatening, or disturbing.
  • Minimal face/head coverings - face must be visible.
  • No heavy makeup, inflatable costumes.
  • Additional costume instructions will be provided next week.

Building Access and Dismissal
  • We look forward to having families attend the parade and for our students to enjoy celebrations with their classmates. With the exception of a potential indoor parade due to the weather, we will not be having visitors inside our building on Halloween. If there is an indoor parade, families will be able to go to a designated area to watch the parade and must then exit immediately after. (Please see next bullet point if you would like to sign your child out afterwards.) Thank you for your cooperation and understanding to support the safety of our students.
  • Families may sign out their children at the end of the parade if they wish. We will have the same pickup locations as we typically do, with the same procedures. However, we will have additional staff on hand to help speed up the process since we anticipate more students will be picked up on that day. I will be sending detailed procedures for pickup next week for those who do not typically pick up for dismissal.
  • Please be aware that parking on that day may be a challenge. Please do not park in the lots of businesses as it causes disruptions for not only the business, but their customers as well.

It has been a true pleasure to work with your students these past few weeks, and I look forward to a fun and safe Halloween experience for everyone involved.

Thank you,
Andy Blaine
