Biographies

The exchange was started by Mrs. Margaret Malloy who was a long-time French teacher at Chenango Valley. Mrs. Amber Henyan (Madame Henyan), current French teacher at the high school, is the director of the program and is assisted by Mrs. Susan Pierce, a retired first grade Chenango Valley teacher.

Madame Henyan came to Chenango Valley in 2002 after teaching for three years in the Broome County Catholic School System. She has a B.A. in Linguistics and French from SUNY Albany, and an M.S.E.D from Binghamton University. She teaches French for grades 9-12. She is also the French Club Advisor and coordinator for the French Exchange Program.


Mrs. Susan Pierce



Mrs. Pierce is currently a retired first grade teacher for Chenango Valley. She was the director of the French Exchange Program from 2000-2012 when she took over the position after spending a month in Castres, France. Besides teaching, she is a violinist with the Binghamton Philharmonic, an executive board member and negotiator for Local #380 of the American Federation of Musicians, and president of the board of directors of Fenton Free Library. She has three children all of whom graduated from CV and participated in the French Exchange Program.
