Olweus Anti-Bullying

Olweus Bullying Prevention Program

All Chenango Valley schools use the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, a research-based program that has proven to reduce bullying in schools and help to make school a safer, more positive place for students to learn.

Teachers and staff are trained to use the program and deal with bullying problems.  A schoolwide committee, coordinated by the school social worker and/or guidance counselors, oversees the program.
In classroom meetings, all students will be taught to follow the four anti-bullying rules:

  1. We will not bully others.
  2. We will try to help others who are bullied.
  3. We will try to include students who are left out.
  4. If we know that someone is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home.

The goals of the Olweus program include:
  • reducing existing bullying problems among students
  • preventing the development of new bullying problems
  • achieving better peer relations at school
