Reduce

How We’re Reducing Our Environmental Impact

  • Energy-saving displays: Computer monitors automatically go into sleep mode after 30 minutes of inactivity to conserve energy.
  • Server virtualization: Instead of maintaining many separate servers, we use fewer, more efficient servers that handle multiple systems at once. This reduces energy use and allows us to adjust quickly as needs change.
  • Secure network printing: Most copiers also function as network printers. Staff release print jobs at the copier, which helps prevent unnecessary or accidental printing.
  • Double-sided printing: Many district printers and copiers are set up for double-sided printing, helping reduce paper use and costs.

Reusing Technology Resources

Reuse of hardware: We participate in a state program that allows schools to receive technology equipment no longer needed by state agencies. This equipment is repurposed for use in our schools, helping reduce waste and extend the life of technology resources.

Recycle

How You Can Help with Recycling

  • Responsible hardware recycling: Technology equipment that has reached the end of its useful life is recycled properly and responsibly.
  • Printer cartridge recycling: Used toner and ink cartridges are recycled in exchange for discounts on new cartridges or points that can be redeemed for free hardware and software.

Community members are welcome to recycle their used toner and ink cartridges to help support Chenango Valley schools. This recycling program allows organizations and communities to earn from a selection of over 7,000 technology products, including hardware and software, simply by recycling empty cartridges.
