Voter Eligibility

In order to vote at the School Budget Vote and Board Election:
  • You must be a citizen of the United States
  • You must be at least 18 years of age 
  • You must NOT be prohibited from voting or from registering to vote pursuant to the provisions of Election Law § 5-106
  • You must be a resident of Chenango Valley for at least thirty (30) days prior to the date of the vote (proof of residency is required:  NYS driver’s license, sheriff’s ID card, senior citizen ID card, or utility bill indicating residency)
  • You must be registered to vote with the Broome County Board of Elections

Absentee Ballots

Absentee ballot applications may be obtained through the District Clerk by calling (607) 762-6810. Voters must verify eligibility and provide an eligible reason for their inability to vote in person. Absentee ballot applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the vote set in this notice if the ballot is to be mailed to the absentee voter or the day before the vote if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the absentee voter. The returned ballot must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of the vote. The district will automatically mail absentee ballots to voters listed as “permanently disabled” on the Board of Election’s list. Military Absentee Ballots

Education Law makes special provisions for absentee voting for military voters of the District. Specifically, the law provides a unique procedure for “military ballots” in school district votes.  A military voter may elect to receive his/her absentee ballot by mail, email, or facsimile. The military voter must return his/her completed military ballot application no later than 5:00 pm on the day preceding the deadline for transmitting a military ballot. The deadline for the Clerk to transmit the military ballot is 25 days before the vote. The completed military ballot must be received by the Clerk by mail or in-person no later than 5:00 pm. on the day of the vote.
