Reading Promise 

The Chenango Valley Reading Promise program is unique to Chenango Valley. It was created by some very talented teachers who based the idea on a well-known book called "The Reading Promise."  The goal of the program is to promote literacy among students, parents and teachers in Chenango Valley.

Families participating in the Reading Promise program agree to read to their child for at least ten (10) minutes every day. It is important that the adult is reading to the child; the child is not reading independently. Teachers also agree to devote an uninterrupted free reading period of at least ten (10) minutes during each regular school day.

The Reading Promise holds many contests, drawings and incentives throughout the school year to keep students motivated. In the past, participants have won Barnes and Noble gift certificates, t-shirts, bookbags, books and even "nook" e-readers! The program has also collected more than $600 in donations and a busload of food for the CVHS CHOW Pantry.

We look forward to continuing the Reading Promise, and we're lining up some new and exciting promotional events. Please enlist your entire family in making the "PROMISE" to start a reading streak! It's a great way for families to spend quality time together and establish a life-long love of reading.
