GHS FCU Reveals Mural Painted by CV Student Artists

On May 19, the GHS Federal Credit Union Front Street branch revealed a new entranceway mural created by Chenango Valley High School student artists.

The mural was chosen as the winner of a competition that invited schools across the region to submit designs paying tribute to the local area. In addition to celebrating the community, the project created an exciting chance for students to foster teamwork, expand their skills, and display their impressive talents.

“The team has done a wonderful job working together. I am continually impressed with their ability to create and apply these ideas into reality. The team rallied behind Savannah’s design and have all taken an active role in making the design theirs,” said Chenango Valley High School art teacher Mr. Wilson.

After the design was presented to GHS and was selected, the students started the project in March. It took them approximately eight weeks to complete, working hard during the bank’s after-hours. Thank you to Golden Artists Colors in Norwich for the donation of paint and brushes!

The design includes our area’s well-known carousel horses and hot air balloons with some fun flair and bold colors to add special touches to the design.

“They have spent many hours working both off and on-site to create the piece. I think their plan of connecting us as a community through their visual imagery and color has been particularly successful. They are honored to have had the opportunity to take part in this and are very much looking forward to people seeing their finished product,” Mr. Wilson added.

A reception was held during the mural’s unveiling. Along with a $2,500 check presented to the CV Art Department, the students received thank you letters.
