STEAM Night and Cardboard Boat Races Deliver Hands-On Learning

Chenango Valley students, families, and educators came together for an evening of hands-on learning and friendly competition at the annual STEAM Night and Middle School Cardboard Boat Races on Feb. 27 at the Chenango Valley Middle/High School campus.
The event kicked off with Chenango Valley Middle School’s Cardboard Boat Races, where students put their handmade boats to the test in the school’s pool. Each team worked together to construct a boat out of cardboard and duct tape, applying their knowledge of physics and engineering to design vessels that could carry a teammate across the water. Cheers and laughter filled the air as students paddled their creations the length of the pool and back, testing both their craftsmanship and teamwork.

Following the races, the Chenango Valley STEAM Night engaged students from Pre-K through sixth grade in a wide range of interactive activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts/Architecture/Agriculture, and Mathematics. Faculty, staff, and community partners collaborated to provide exciting hands-on experiences, giving students the opportunity to explore concepts in a fun and engaging environment.

The event highlighted Chenango Valley’s commitment to fostering curiosity and learning beyond the classroom. From the creativity displayed in the boat races to the innovative projects showcased at STEAM Night, the evening was a celebration of education, teamwork, and discovery.
