CVHS Students Learn Important Lessons about Driving Safety

Students from Chenango Valley High School received a lesson on the importance of safe driving practices on October 11. More than 30 Chenango Valley High School students participated in Broome County’s “Teen Traffic Safety Day” at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena. They were among hundreds of students from local school districts who attended.

At the event, students heard a presentation from United Health Services titled "Let's Not Meet by Accident," which went through the process of how first responders and medical officials treat a person who has been in a traumatic accident. Kevin Brady, a Chenango Valley Class of 2013 graduate, is an emergency medical technician (EMT) and helped to put on this presentation.

After the presentation, students had the opportunity to participate in hands-on traffic safety activities that showed the effects that being impaired or distracted could have on one’s ability to drive properly. Students also took part in a “Battle of the Belts” contest, competing to buckle their seat belts fastest.

Thank you to the Broome County Traffic Safety and STOP-DWI Program for co-hosting this important and educational event!
