On June 11 and 12, “Colonial Days” gave students a fun and interactive lesson in history with a variety of exciting activities such as making butter, creating lanterns, designing “Whirligig” toys and practicing calligraphy.

Sponsorship from the Chenango Valley Elementary Parent-Teacher Association helped to once again bring in “Fred the Blacksmith” (Fred von Mechow). He taught students the art of blacksmithing, and students worked with him to make their own forged iron hook.

As part of the fourth grade Social Studies Unit, the goal of “Colonial Days” is to help students learn about the ways of the past and how history has helped to shape our future.
