As Veterans Day approached on November 11, Port Dickinson Elementary School hosted a special assembly on November 6 to honor veterans. In the school's gymnasium, students warmly welcomed their peers' family members who served in the military.

The event started with the Pledge of Allegiance, and students sang a song for their guests. During the assembly, the veterans shared which branch of the military they served in, the years they served, and which student(s) had invited them.

There was also discussion of how the special visitors were great examples of this week's Positivity Project character strength of bravery.

As the students left the gym after the assembly was over, they gave high-fives, handshakes, and fist bumps to the veterans. This was a simple but meaningful way to say "thank you" for everything the veterans have done for our country. In addition, the students presented the veterans with handmade cards and signs they created.

The veterans' visit provided a meaningful opportunity to teach students about respect and thank those who have worked hard to keep our country safe. The day was filled with smiles, music, and gratitude - making it a memorable one for both the students and the veterans they honored.
