CV Senior Builds Gaga Ball Pit for P.E. Classes as Part of Eagle Scout Project

Covany Skinner, a Chenango Valley High School senior and Scouts BSA Troop 6199 member, recently completed an ambitious Eagle Scout project. Over the course of a few months, she led the creation of a Gaga Ball pit for the high school's physical education classes. Gaga Ball, a game similar to dodgeball but played below the knees, is enjoyed in a large octagon-shaped pit.

Chenango Valley High School’s Gaga Ball pit, made of large stained wooden panels, is not just part of the game, it is a symbol of Covany's dedication and leadership skills. After learning that a Gaga Ball pit could benefit P.E. classes, Covany led the fundraising efforts and coordinated its construction with the help of family, friends, and fellow scouts.

Covany was proud of the project’s success, and the pit has quickly become a popular spot for students to enjoy during P.E. "I’m glad everything came together, and people are excited about it," she said.

This is not the only time Covany has shown initiative; she is also the founder of the original girls' group in her troop. The Eagle Scout rank is the highest achievement in Scouts BSA. It's earned by demonstrating advanced skills, leadership, and completing a significant community service project. As Covany officially earns her Eagle Scout rank on December 2, Chenango Valley congratulates her and thanks her for creating such a fun and active space for students to enjoy for years to come.
