Science Classes Create Borax Crystal Snowflakes

Mrs. Clark’s science classes wrapped up their unit on rocks and minerals by making borax crystal snowflakes!

Students dissolved the borax, a white mineral powder, in hot water and then hung pipe cleaners in the solution, allowing it to sit for an entire day.

As time passed, something magical happened before their eyes! The borax crystals began to take shape on the pipe cleaners, eventually transforming into beautiful snowflake-like structures. It was a sight to behold, as each was unique, resembling real snowflakes!

This activity was not only fun but also educational. It taught the students about crystallization and how minerals can form complex structures through natural processes.
