CV Middle School Receives Visit from Justin Topa

The Chenango Valley Middle School Positivity Project (P2)/Fun Club introduced a special guest to students for their “Fun Day” event on November 9. The surprise guest was Justin Topa, a Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher for the Seattle Mariners and CV Class of '09 graduate.

The Chenango Valley Middle School P2/Fun Club group, which focuses on fostering positive character strengths in its students and providing them with fun and educational events, arranged this unique opportunity. The “Fun Day” event kicked off in the school's auditorium with teachers sharing well-deserved shout-outs to middle school students who have recently displayed P2 character strengths. This set the tone for a celebration of positivity and personal growth.

Following the recognitions, Justin Topa took the stage as the event's guest speaker. With his inspiring journey from a Chenango Valley graduate to a professional athlete in the major leagues, Topa shared his story of hard work, patience, determination to overcome challenges, and the importance of a positive mindset. He emphasized to students that with these attributes, one can achieve great things.

There was also a question-and-answer session, allowing students to gain further insights into Topa’s life and career. In addition, students who contributed a food item to the school's Thanksgiving Food Drive were entered for a chance to win an autograph and take their photo with Justin Topa. This special opportunity took place for the winners after the presentation.
