In groups, students spent the day in English, science, social studies, and math classes. They enjoyed engaging in insightful activities such as participating in team meetings, completing observation forms, designing teaching layouts, and reflecting on educational best practices. Some students also had family members who are educators at Windsor, adding a personal touch to their learning experience.

Similarly, at Chenango Valley Middle School, some of Binghamton High School's EDU 111 students observed classes. Based on their career interests, the students spent the day in Ms. Barton’s math classes, Mr. McCabe’s science classes, and Mr. Berg’s physical education classes. The students did a great job interacting with CV Middle School students and staff.

On January 4, Chenango Valley students visited Johnson City Middle School to engage in more exciting observational opportunities in various subject areas. Harpursville High School students visited Chenango Valley Middle School as well and observed subjects such as social studies, science, English, mathematics, and physical education.

As part of another EDU 111 class initiative, students are embarking on a firsthand learning experience by engaging with various professionals in the educational setting. On February 13, Superintendent Dr. Larry Dake visited the class to discuss his role. Both Dr. Dake and the students enjoyed this interactive opportunity including discussions and a Q&A session. The class looks forward to learning through interactions with additional professionals in the future!

On March 6, the special visitor was Mr. Burlingame, CV Director of Facilities and Operations. Mr. Burlingame spoke to the students about his position and the role of his team, as well as topics such as capital project work. Students were even able to look at some blueprints and project plans that Mr. Burlingame brought in.

EDU 111 is a Fast Forward college course offered through a dual partnership between SUNY Broome and Binghamton University. It was designed to provide students with experiences and learning opportunities in various educational settings. Its goal is to build personal and professional connections for students interested in becoming educators, school social workers, or school psychologists. High school teachers, who are approved and work with department chairs, teach these courses during the regular school day. Participants can earn college credits at no cost while still in high school.
