CV Wellness Day Events Promote Well-Being

The Chenango Valley School District recently hosted Wellness Day events for students, emphasizing mental and physical health, wellness, and personal achievement.

Chenango Valley Middle School Wellness Day
On March 13, the Chenango Valley Middle School Wellness Day for students in grades 6 through 8 kicked off with a keynote speech by Dan Kosick, a social worker at the Susquehanna Valley Central School District who has represented the United States in the Paralympics for alpine skiing, shared his experiences and insights through an inspiring presentation. Following Mr. Kosick's presentation, students engaged in exciting activity stations led by CV staff members and community partners.

Port Dickinson Elementary School Wellness Day
On March 13, pre-K through grade 2 students at Port Dickinson Elementary kicked off their Wellness Day event with a lively dance celebration in the hallways, setting an energetic tone for the day. Afterward, they had the chance to participate in a variety of activities focused on well-being.

  • Educational workshops included:
    • Vitamin Superheroes - Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County
    • Handwashing - Binghamton University Education Department
    • Mindfulness Activities - Cosmic Kids Yoga
  • A Calming Station offered quiet activities for relaxation and enjoyment.
  • Outdoor playtime provided excitement for all!
  • The gymnasium hosted Exercise Stations for engaging in fun-filled physical activities.

Chenango Bridge Elementary School Wellness Day
On March 28, Chenango Bridge Elementary School hosted its Wellness Day event. This special day included hands-on learning experiences, all geared toward teaching students in grades 3-5 the importance of self-care, mindfulness, and overall wellness. Students engaged in a variety of activity stations, from nutrition and agility sessions to creating friendship bracelets and practicing positive self-talk, making it a day full of action, creativity, and learning.

A highlight of the event was the abundant support from CV staff members and community partners. Here's a look at some of the engaging activities and the organizations that made them possible:

  • Playground Activities - CV Staff
  • Gizmo Crafts and Activities - Binghamton University Student Education Club (with assistance from CV High School students)
The assistance of CV High School students, including those from the EDU 111 course, truly made the day a team effort. Thank you to all who helped make this event a success!

In the lead-up to the event, the school also engaged in Wellness Spirit Week fun, setting the stage for a memorable and impactful Wellness Day. This event aimed to inspire students to consider their health and happiness from a holistic perspective. By combining educational lessons with engaging, interactive activities, students learned healthy habits and positive outlooks to take with them as they continue to learn and grow.
