Following the informative budget workshop, there will be an electric bus presentation. A Leonard's Bus representative will discuss the logistics of adding an electric bus to our district’s current fleet.
As part of our district budget vote on May 21, our community will vote on a proposition to welcome our first electric bus. Chenango Valley will use state grants/incentives to help cover part of the cost, making the purchase cost comparable to a diesel bus.
In alignment with New York State's initiative aimed at environmental sustainability, districts will be transitioning to all zero-emission school buses by 2035. By 2027, any buses purchased will need to be zero-emission. With the current grants/incentives available, adding one electric bus will provide Chenango Valley with the opportunity to ease into the transition and assist with long-term planning.
If you’re a community member and unable to attend on Monday, a recording of the bus presentation will be available on our district website. We also plan to offer additional opportunities to learn more, see an electric bus firsthand, and ask questions. Stay tuned for more details.
