On February 12, Chenango Bridge Elementary third grade students learned more about agriculture with an "Ag in the Classroom" lesson focused on the production of maple syrup.
Students learned about the tools used to tap sap from maple trees. They also discovered more about modern technology's impact on production rates, how different grades of syrup are created, and the ideal time of the year to produce maple syrup. At the end of their lesson, students were able to try out some maple syrup and maple cream. Both received great reviews!
The “Ag in the Classroom” program is made possible at Chenango Valley Central School District thanks to the help and collaboration of New York State Senator Fred Akshar, Broome-Tioga BOCES and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County.
