On December 6, students in Mrs. Chavez’s Gourmet Foods class took on a “Grilled Cheese Challenge” for some fun, friendly and delicious competition.
Beforehand, students researched topics such as flavors and textures of different types of cheeses. With this acquired knowledge, students worked in four groups to create a sandwich to be deemed the winner. Students put a variety of twists on the classic food staple with a combo of sweet and smoked flavor in the "Sweet & Savory Grilled Cheese," a combo of Mexican flavors in "El Queso Asado," the use of toasty stuffed ciabatta bread in "The Big Ciabatta" and Philly Cheesesteak met grilled cheese in "The Philly Melt."
Thank you to Ms. Kisloski, Mr. Clark, Mr. Cass and Mrs. Schaffer for volunteering to be judges for the competition! The judges scored the sandwiches in areas including appearance, grilled exterior of bread, grilled interior of bread, overall taste and how well the description/title fit the sandwich.
Since all of the sandwiches were so scrumptious, it was a tough and close decision. In the end, the “Sweet & Savory Grilled Cheese” was declared the winner. Awesome job to all!
