William placed first displaying his skills in plumbing, Morgan placed third exhibiting her hair design talents in senior cosmetology and Joshua placed third while showcasing his knowledge in carpentry.

The students said being able to get firsthand, competitive experience in fields that they hope to eventually make their careers is truly beneficial.

“It shows you what to expect when you go out into the workforce,” said Joshua.

“It definitely gives you on-the-job experience,” William agreed.

“Having the judges put you up to high expectations really does prove what you can do,” added Morgan.

These hardworking and dedicated students have certainly proved they have quite the set of talents.

Their next step is the SkillsUSA state-level competition. The New York State SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Championships will be held at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse from April 24-26. Chenango Valley wishes all students participating the best of luck!
