Through this professional development opportunity, teachers and school-related professionals learned about positive approaches to teach social, academic and daily living skills to individuals with ASD (autism spectrum disorder). The objectives of the presentation were to provide a better understanding of the theories of motivation in those with ASD, to help participants understand reinforcement principles and their applications for motivation, and to assist in the recognition of evidence-based practices and tools for increasing motivation in students with ASD in multiple settings.

Those who attended the presentation were reminded that visuals, peers and creativity can be great tools to inspire motivation. It was also noted that all children are unique and motivated best by their own unique needs and interests.
