Wellness Day 2018

On the last school day before Chenango Valley Central School District’s winter break began, CV Middle School continued a yearly tradition to promote healthy lifestyle choices.
 
As the middle school hosted its 12th annual Wellness Day on December 21, students had the opportunity to take part in a day-long series of workshops and activities focused on health and well-being. 

Keynote speaker New York State Senator Fred Akshar kicked off the event. Among his message about the importance of being Warrior STRONG (Self-aware, Teamwork, Respectful, Open-Minded, Nurturing & Goal-oriented), the senator encouraged students to make positive decisions on a daily basis. "Every day, through the choices that you make, you get to write the story of your life," Senator Akshar stated.
 
"We have the opportunity every day to nurture each other, encourage each other and make life a little easier for each other," the Senator added.

This inspirational speech was followed by fun and informative workshops from the following presenters:
  • Inclusive Sports Training (Facilitated by Jeff Wright of Move Along, Inc. - a chapter of Disabled Sports USA)
  • Broome County Humane Society (Facilitated by Kim Broderick)
  • Bark-9 Therapy Dogs (Facilitated by Debbie Abbey)
  • Nutrition (Facilitated by Sara and Lei Liu of Parlor City Vegan)
  • Fitness (Facilitated by Derek Stupski of Stupski Fitness)
  • Leadership (Facilitated by Chenango Valley Assistant Superintendent Michelle Feyerabend)
  • Drums Alive (Facilitated by Terry and Kayla Price)
  • Substance Abuse Prevention (Facilitated by Lourdes Alcohol and Drug Education Prevention Team or ADEPT)
  • Information on Vaping (Facilitated by Lourdes Alcohol and Drug Education Prevention Team or ADEPT)
  • Mindfulness (Facilitated by Ann Szymaniak)
  • Arts and Crafts (Facilitated by Chenango Valley Teacher Carrie Vesci)
  • Nutrition (Facilitated by Chenango Valley Teacher Tara Shadduck)
  • Digital Citizenship (Facilitated by Chenango Valley Director of Curriculum/Technology Sarah Latimer) 
  • Fit for Life (Facilitated by Trent Patterson and Bill Clark)
Students had the opportunity to rotate through activities throughout the day.  Thank you to all who helped to make this day possible!
