Patriotism shined in a sea of red, white and blue as Port Dickinson Elementary held its annual Flag Day ceremony!

Students, staff and families gathered in the Port Dickinson Elementary gymnasium as the event took place on June 14.  The ceremony kicked off with Chenango Valley High School freshman Forrest Dorn performing a bugle call as members of Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways Troop 60288 presented the flag.

Throughout the ceremony, Port Dickinson Elementary students recited historical facts about the day and our national flag. Students also sang songs such as “America the Beautiful,” and signed songs such as “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

The event’s guest speaker was First Sergeant Hugh Becker who has been serving in the U.S. Army Reserve for over 30 years. Hugh and 20-year veteran Sergeant First Class Katie Becker are the proud parents of Port Dickinson Elementary student and American Patriot, Maxwell Becker. Mr. Becker talked about what it means to pledge allegiance to our flag and show pride in our country.

“Just as each one of you is a very important part of what makes Port Dickinson and Chenango Valley a great place to learn, you’re also a very important part of what makes America a great place to live,” said Mr. Becker.

Thank you to the American Legion Post 1194 for providing American flags for our students to wave proudly! Also, thank you to all of the faculty and staff who helped to make this event possible!
