Chenango Valley Middle School students enjoyed using their STEAM skills as they participated in the 11th (almost) annual Cardboard Boat Race event on February 24! Last held in early 2020 (due to the COVID-19 pandemic), this fun event was back in the CV Middle School/High School pool!
Working in teams, students built their colorful boats and paddles using cardboard and duct tape. They studied the basics of boat construction and physics to prepare for the event. Finally, students put their boats to the test to see if they could carry at least one person the length of the pool and back.
Overall Winners Most Creative Boat: Unsinkable Titanic
Arin Miller, Aurora Heard, Caden Hoyt, Logan Henyan, Juliana Rice
Most School Spirit: USS 21-12
Caleb Dancesia, Harper O’ Hara
Fastest Time: The Losers (1 minute 11 seconds)
Sydney Shelley, Logan Koch, Owen Stafford, Logan Kliment
Whether their boat made it across the pool or not, all teams did a wonderful job and (most importantly) had fun!
Thank you to all who made this event possible!
