Artists from Chenango Valley and Whitney Point Central School Districts worked with Broome County officials to help beautify a fence at the Broome County Dog Shelter.
“I think it’s great that they all give back to their community," said Broome County Legislator Cindy O’Brien, who helped to implement the creation of the mural. "It gives them an even greater sense of community pride."

With a bit of paint and some helping hands, progress was quickly made to create a radiant mural featuring fun cartoon characters (including people, dogs, and other animals) and a "welcome" display.
“I enjoyed working on the
mural last year at the school and, of course, I love dogs -- so I thought this would be a great combination,” said Chenango Valley High School student Kayla Ferris. Ferris said she hoped the mural would help to get more dogs adopted.
“It’s nice to get the kids involved and highlight their talents, while helping the community,” said Chenango Valley art teacher Karen Krawczyk, who assisted in the painting process.

August 31 Press Conference:
On August 31, a press conference was held to recognize all involved for their dedication and care. Broome County Executive Jason Garnar noted that this mural was a, "Great way to collaborate with students and have their talents on display for years and years to come."
Those who help to run the shelter expressed an abundance of gratitude.
"Thank you to everyone for making this happen," said Broome County Dog Shelter manager Kelly Conlon.
The dogs who are currently being housed in the shelter seemed quite happy about their new mural, and its potential to help them find a forever home, as well.
