Mister Cass Named to New York State Master Program

Congratulations to Chenango Valley High School technology teacher Mr. AJ Cass who has been named to the New York State Master Teacher Program!

The New York State Master Teacher Program provides vast resources and professional networking opportunities in the K-12 STEM field, giving educators the chance to not only grow their own skills but also acquire information to provide mentorship to their peers. More than 1,400 educators statewide are part of this program, including Chenango Valley High School teachers Jay Hope, Megan Preston, and Michael Breed.

From the program's website: "The New York State Master Teacher Program celebrates the work of the highest-performing STEM teachers by establishing an expert community dedicated to developing expertise in the areas of content, pedagogy, and students’ families and communities."

Finding the tools to help Warriors succeed is important to Mr. Cass. After graduating from CV High School, he has been working as a technology teacher in the district for almost 30 years. He noted that in this profession you must always keep growing, learning from others, and sharpening the skills you bring into the classroom.

“You’re always trying to become a better teacher,” said Mr. Cass. “Through gaining the most up-to-date knowledge myself, it gives students the best opportunity to be successful.”

This passion for empowering students is clear outside of the classroom as well. In his time at CV, Mr. Cass has enjoyed taking on various roles, such as coaching sports teams and supervising the robotics team, to expand students’ extracurricular opportunities.

Mr. Cass said he will officially begin meeting with other new master teachers from around the Southern Tier in February. We wish him all the best in this exciting endeavor!
