Port Dickinson Elementary One of Two in NYS Recognized as a Promising Practices Professional Learning Community
Chenango Valley’s Port Dickinson Elementary School has been recognized by Solution Tree as a Promising Practices Professional Learning Community at Work, making it one of only two schools in New York State to receive this designation. This recognition highlights Port Dickinson’s commitment to raising student achievement through collaboration and professional learning.

The PLC at Work process focuses on continuous, job-embedded learning for educators, which directly impacts student success. As part of this initiative, Port Dickinson Elementary has embraced three key principles: focus on learning to ensure that every student achieves at high levels, build a collaborative culture to encourage teamwork among educators, and create a results orientation by using data to drive instructional improvements.

Superintendent Dr. Larry Dake praised the dedication of Port Dickinson staff in implementing these practices.“This recognition celebrates our staff’s focus on putting student learning at the center of what we do," Dake said. "I congratulate our Port Dickinson staff and those throughout the district who support this work for this recognition.”

Promising Practices schools are selected based on their strong foundation in PLC concepts, successful implementation for at least one to two years, and measurable improvements in student learning. Schools that receive this recognition share their strategies and experiences with educators nationwide through AllThingsPLC.info, a resource hub developed by Solution Tree.

For over two decades, Solution Tree has provided research-based strategies to support K-12 educators in improving school performance. Port Dickinson Elementary’s achievement as one of only two schools in New York State to receive this honor underscores its commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning and student success.
