Pre-K Students Participate in 'Ag in the Classroom' Activity
As a way to learn more about agriculture, Port Dickinson Elementary pre-K students enjoyed a fun “Ag in the Classroom” lesson on February 3.

Ms. Atwood, an “Ag in the Classroom” program educator from Cornell Cooperative Extension Broome County, first talked to students about farms and asked them to share their ideas of what farms are.

Ms. Atwood then showed students how wheat can be turned into flour. Flour was part of a combination of ingredients that she brought with her for students to create gingerbread playdough. Students were able to help stir the ingredients including items such as flour, salt, oil and cinnamon. Once mixed enough, the ingredients turned into playdough. Students were even able to keep a piece of their creation!

We look forward to having more of our elementary students participate in exciting “Ag in the Classroom” lessons as the school year continues!

The program is made possible at Chenango Valley Central School District thanks to the help and collaboration of New York State Senator Fred Akshar, Broome-Tioga BOCES and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County. To learn more, click here.
