Chenango Bridge Students Receive a Sweet Lesson on Agriculture
Third grade students at Chenango Bridge Elementary learned more about agriculture, with a lesson on the production of maple syrup.

On February 4, “Ag in the Classroom” program educators from Cornell Cooperative Extension Broome County visited the elementary school. Ms. Atwood, Ms. Klecha and Mrs. Truesdail talked to students about how maple syrup is made. They showed students some of the tools used to tap sap from maple trees. They also discussed topics such as how modern technology has impacted production rates, how different grades of syrup are created, and the ideal time of the year to produce maple syrup.

The “Ag in the Classroom” program is made possible at Chenango Valley Central School District thanks to the help and collaboration of New York State Senator Fred Akshar, Broome-Tioga BOCES and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County.
