CVHS Students Participate in 'Envirothon' Competition
Two Chenango Valley High School teams had a wonderful time participating in this year’s Envirothon competition at the Tioga County Sportsmen’s Association in Owego. More than 160 students and over 30 teams from a dozen area school districts competed in this year’s event, which was primarily sponsored by the Broome County Soil & Water Conservation District.

During Envirothon, teams travel to five unique stations and must work together to answer 20 questions at each station. Subject matter included aquatics, forestry, wildlife, soil and a “current topic.” This year, the “current topic” was sustainable agricultural practices. Questions included identifying fish, recognizing frog calls, using clinometers and maps, and much more. The stations were timed. Students had 20 minutes to answer the questions and five minutes to get to their next station.

One of our teams, the “CV Hellbenders” (hellbenders are a type of local salamander), came in third place in Broome County by scoring 280 points. The students received a plaque for their achievement. Our other team, "The Forces of Nature,” earned 205 points overall and finished in ninth place. We are very proud of all of our Warrior participants for their hard work and efforts!
