'My Warrior and Me' Presentation

For the final Warrior Community Connections presentation of the 2021-22 school year, a presentation called "My Warrior and Me" was held at the Chenango Valley High School on June 21.

The event featured guest speaker Leroy Collins and his story of perseverance to make it to the NFL. Mr. Collins shared a speech on "Winning with Decisions," discussing the importance of decision-making in each person's life. Mr. Collins is very familiar with this topic. When he was young, he was hit by a motor vehicle and the decisions of an officer helped to save his life. While this incident brought about a large share of adversities, Mr. Collins made the decision to face these challenges and use them to build strength. This would eventually include joining the NFL (running back for Washington Redskins – 1999, Jacksonville Jaguars – 2000).

After Mr. Collins' inspiring speech, attendees were able to attend breakout sessions. These included the following topics:
  • How to treat/prevent concussions in sports (presented by Courtney Ellis Jamison - UHS FNP-C)
  • Parent/player process (presented by Emily Goodstal and Owen O'Brien)
  • Injury prevention and recovery (presented by Justin Valentine - UHS Athletic Trainer)
  • Navigating the recruitment process (presented by Isaac Hadac - college athlete)
  • Sports nutrition (presented by John Hadac - medical student/college athlete)
  • Strength and conditioning (presented by Joel Yeoman - UHS)
  • Leroy Collins also shared more insight including a look into his story "Running Back"
