New CB Tree Planted in Time for Arbor Day

Arbor Day is a national holiday that recognizes the importance of trees. This year it fell on April 29, 2022. Fittingly, a new plant with historic roots has joined the Chenango Bridge Elementary campus, thanks to a donation from Bob Aagre who previously attended the school and is currently involved in a historic tree program.

In time, this sapling will grow into a beautiful tree. It is from an American Heritage Trees project to help preserve history. They are grown from seeds and nuts collected at historic sites around the United States. The Chenango Bridge Elementary tree is a Bur Oak. Its seed was collected from a tree located at the Mark Twain Cave in Hannibal, Missouri. It originated from a parent tree that just passed its 300th birthday and is still going strong and very healthy. The parent tree and cave were where Mark Twain played as a child and later wrote about in many of his books.
