Chenango Bridge Elementary Students Work to Help Local Animal Shelters
During their social studies inquiry-based learning, Ms. Baity’s fourth grade class was inspired by the topic of local community change. The class wanted to do something to help their community. After some brainstorming, they decided an “Animal Shelter Donation Drive” was a great place to start.

“Saving animals. Serving the community.” That’s their motto. Motivated by compassion, the class called upon the entire Chenango Bridge Elementary School (grades 3-5) to join them in the drive and help make a difference. The goal of the drive is to collect 1,000 items. These items, such as dog food and cat toys, will be donated to the Broome County Humane Society and Broome County Dog Shelter.

The donation drive kicked off on April 19. As of April 29, 699 items had been collected! The drive will continue until May 7 with various days of animal-inspired and other fun themes and activities sprinkled in.

In addition, on April 26, a representative from the Broome County Humane Society was able to Zoom into Chenango Bridge Elementary School classes. They shared how these donations will help the shelter's animals, such as Charlie (pictured below).

This drive also aligns with the "Positivity Project" #PositivityInAction.

We'll keep you updated on their progress. Keep up the great work, Warriors!
