‘Life is a Reality’ Expo Empowers Financial Responsibility

life is a reality expo event

On May 23, in partnership with Visions Federal Credit Union, the “Life is a Reality” expo provided CV High School senior math classes with a hands-on experience replicating the financial opportunities and challenges of life beyond school. Thank you to Mrs. Preston for the hard work to make this possible at CV as part of a culminating project for the “Real World Math” unit!

This initiative provided students who are preparing to graduate with a real-life budgeting simulation, reflecting the first year in their chosen careers. The goal was to enhance financial literacy skills and equip students with the tools necessary to make informed financial decisions as they embark on their professional journeys.

Each student received a personalized budgeting sheet based on their selected career, outlining their net monthly income and potential deductions.

Throughout the expo, students rotated through various stations representing life expenses such as transportation, housing, groceries, student loans, and clothing. Students were also presented with choices at each station and recorded their decisions, teaching them to manage their income wisely and prioritize their expenses based on their financial situation.

Spinning a “Wheel of Life” mirrored real-world unexpected expenses or gains. In addition, students received a credit score at random to further learn the importance of responsible financial behavior.

The “Life is a Reality” expo was an opportunity for students to gain practical financial planning and decision-making skills, empowering them with the confidence to make informed financial decisions in the next stage of their lives.
