Subject: Upcoming Informational Sessions on Medicare Advantage Plan Option
Dear [Recipient’s Name],
We are writing to provide you with additional information about the optional transition to the Humana Medicare Advantage Plan, which will be available beginning January 1, 2026.
Medicare Advantage Plans are designed specifically for retirees age 65 and older. These plans work with Medicare to provide the coverage and benefits most relevant to this stage of life. Because they are tailored to retirees, the premiums are significantly less expensive than the traditional indemnity or PPO plans, which are structured as primary coverage for younger individuals and families. The overall premium cost is between 50-60% less expensive than the plan in place for active employees.
What does this mean for you? If you are currently paying a portion of your health insurance premium, moving to the Medicare Advantage Plan will likely result in you paying significantly less or in many cases, nothing at all. For those who are already receiving a Medicare reimbursement check from us, that reimbursement will increase under the Medicare Advantage Plan, meaning more money back in your pocket each month.
To help you make an informed decision, we will be holding two informational meetings: A virtual meeting via Zoom (link below) and an in-person meeting. During these sessions, you will receive:
- A detailed comparison of your existing plan and the Humana Medicare Advantage Plan
- An overview of what a Medicare Advantage Plan (MAP) is and how it works
- Answers to frequently asked questions
- Information about the support available to retirees who choose this option

In person meeting details:
- November 7th at 10:00 AM at the Middle School/High School
- Room - Warrior Room – Please be prepared enter at the Security Entrance and show ID. The Warrior conference room is next to the Library. There will be signs to assist you.
We encourage you to attend one (or both) of these meetings so you can learn more and have your questions answered directly. We will have applications available at the “in person” meeting and will provide upon request.
We appreciate your years of service to Chenango Valley CSD and look forward to supporting you through this process. If you have immediate questions, please contact Sheila Daino at 607-762-6812.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth I. Donahue
