Message from Principal Ostrander 4-3-2022

Good morning CV High School families!
Just a few updates as we go into the week before spring break begins:

1. Our spring break will run from 4/9/22-4/17/22. I know some students may want to 'extend' the break a bit, but I encourage you to please send your child to school this week. If your child must miss (due to sickness, for example), please have them reach out to their teacher either through email, Schoology, or Remind to find out what they missed. As always, please call your child's absence into our attendance office. If you plan on having your child out due to travel, it's an unexcused absence but we encourage you to call them in absent.

2. There is a district-wide spirit week coming up this week! The themes are: Monday: Mis-match day, Tuesday: Tie Dye Day, Wednesday: Sports Day, Thursday: Pajama Day, Friday: Warrior Wear. I hope many of our high school students will participate to promote CV school spirit!

3. The end of the 3rd marking period is this Friday, April 8. Report cards will be brought home on Thursday, April 21.

4. We are seeing many students on their cell phones during class and while the teacher is teaching. This is obviously a distraction and students cannot be on their phones and fully receive the instruction at the same time. We as a staff have told students several times that phones should be put away during instruction, unless specifically approved by the teacher. When I question students about why they were on their phones, most will say "I was waiting for a text from my mom/dad". Whether true or not (I'm sure social media has a large part of that!), I ask that you speak to your child about appropriate cell phone use. Please explain that a text from you can wait until the class ends, and having the phone put away is more important. If there is an emergency and you need to get a message to your child right away, you can always call the main office at 762-6900 and we will call for that student out of class. Please be aware: if a student has to be continually warned about being on their cell phones during class, a discipline referral will be submitted and consequences will be assigned. Thank you for your help with driving this important point home!

5. The deadline to order a yearbook is April 20!  They are $50 - Please go to our website to order a yearbook: https://www.cvcsd.stier.org/Yearbooks.aspx

6. If your child is taking an AP (advanced placement) class, please be aware that the AP tests will be coming up in May.

I hope everyone has a great week ahead and a safe and happy spring break! Please reach out with any questions or concerns!

Thank you,
Jennifer Ostrander
