Message from Principal Ostrander (10-11-21)

Good afternoon,

I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend!

First, I'd like to sincerely thank you for helping to address the skipping/wandering issue at school-we've already seen a significant decrease in students wandering during class time! Your at-home conversations along with the strategies at school are helping!

We are still struggling with our daily attendance.  On average, we have about 40-45 students missing school everyday.  That is approximately 10% of our high school population.  I know some are out because of illness, but many absences are unexcused because either a parent isn't calling the student into our attendance office or students are out without a legitimate excuse.

I would love to get parent input and perspective on this.  You are a vital part of our school team and I believe your insight would prove to be invaluable.  I started a 'Success for All' task force a few years ago that was put on hold due to the Covid shutdown.  I would like to re-start this task force.  Please see the attached flyer with details.  This group will meet monthly to discuss ideas on how to get more kids in school.  We will discuss how to engage students with anxiety, school fear, and school apathy.

Please consider joining my team. You will not be obligated to attend every meeting, but I hope you will join me to give your input on how to make our amazing school even better!

Please respond by 10/29/21.

Thank you for your consideration!
