We hope that your 2024 is off to a great start!  As we approach the academic year’s half-way point, I want to thank you for your continued support.  Our chronic absenteeism rates are down approximately 4% compared to this time last year, and our out of school suspensions are down over 50%, as well. This kind of progress requires a true partnership between home and school, and we thank you for your collaboration with our Chenango Valley staff.  

In my career, I’ve found that this time of year is often among the most challenging.  It’s colder, darker, and the weather can be unpredictable. I’ve encouraged our staff to continue building connections with students and encouraging them to attend every day. We thank you for that continued support on your end, as well.

We are also tracking, particularly at the elementary level, last-minute transportation changes.  By “last minute,” we mean any bussing change occurring on the afternoon of the same-day, for non-emergency reasons (i.e., to have a playdate at a friend’s house).  While we understand these changes may occur from time to time, we had over 125 such changes at our elementary schools during the month of December.  These changes often present challenges for our elementary schools to efficiently, and safely, load our buses for afternoon dismissal.  We ask that any such change be made as far in advance as possible, so our buildings can organize PM transportation in a safe and efficient manner.
