On the last school day before Chenango Valley Central School District’s winter break began, CV Middle School continued a yearly tradition to promote healthy lifestyles. The middle school hosted its 11th annual “Wellness Day” on Friday, December 22.

CV Middle School students had the opportunity to take part in a day-long series of workshops and activities focused on health and well-being.

Joel Bennett, a middle school physical education teacher at Windsor Central School District who formerly played MLB, kicked-off the event with a powerful keynote speech. He encouraged students to never underestimate the power of saying something as simple as “thank you” or “I’m sorry” and to stick to their values in all situations. “Who you are should be who you are, no matter who you are with,” Mr. Bennett told students during his speech.

The event went on to include a variety of fun and educational workshops such as Zumba, yoga, cyber safety, essential oils, salsa dancing, a K-9 unit, substance abuse prevention, a leadership seminar for eighth grade students, and nutrition tips. Students visited different activities throughout the day.

Organizations that helped to present these workshops included NYS Troopers, the Broome County Sheriff’s Department, Lourdes Alcohol and Drug Education Prevention Team (ADEPT), and Core Life Eatery. CV Middle School staff also presented some of the event’s workshops.

Thank you to all who helped to make this "Wellness Day" possible!
