How is weather forecasted? What is the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset? These are just some of the topics that CV Summer Programs covered during the week of July 23-26.
CV Elementary Summer STEAM
A new group of students began their two-week CV Elementary Summer STEAM session on July 23.
Participants in the grade 2-3 group received a special visit from WBNG’s Storm Track 12 Meteorologist Brian Schroeder on July 24! Mr. Schroeder spoke with students about topics including storm coverage, how he forecasts weather, career opportunities in the field of meteorology, and how to prepare for severe storms. In addition to other activities throughout the week, the group also made their own kites to fly outside on July 26.
The Elementary Summer STEAM grade 5-6 group took part in activities including continuing work as “Animal Avengers” by using a 3D printer to create prosthetic parts to help animal characters of their choice. They also continued to research about animals and write a story about how the prosthetic part helped their chosen character.
The grade 1-2 group took part in many educational and creative activities including using items from nature as they spray-painted outdoors. They also constructed items, such as boats, using craft supplies as part of another activity.
CV Summer Arts Program
The second, and final, week of the CV Summer Arts Program included a motivational presentation. Students wrote a play focused on the theme of kindness and doing the right thing. They created sock puppets to help them portray their message.
On July 26, the CV Summer Arts Program participants put on their inspiring play for first graders participating in the CV Combined Civic Summer Fun program. The play included a new student who was being bullied by another student. In the end, the bully realized he was wrong for bullying another person out of jealousy, and changed his ways to become friends with the new student. The play wrapped up with the puppets singing, “Kind, kind, kind. It’s important to be kind.” Summer Arts participants asked the younger students to always remember the importance of being kind and doing the right thing.
During the presentation, the Summer Arts participants' beautiful multi-media inspirational quote art creations were displayed to help reinforce their message.
After the presentation, the Summer Fun students were even able to create puppets of their own to help spread positivity!
Warrior Academy
The theme for the third week of Warrior Academy was mindset. In addition to participating in strength and conditioning exercises, participants learned about topics such as fixed versus growth mindsets and the value of short-term and long-term goals. The focus of Week Four will be “The Next Step” and students will work on retesting for Week 5! Keep up the great work, Warriors!
